We are currently working with NHS England to offer extra GP appointments. This is because we know that there are times you want to be able to see a GP at short notice. We also know that over winter lots of people have seasonal illnesses which require more than a pharmacy but don't need emergency treatment.
Because of additional pressures on the NHS this winter, our staff are working extra hours to assist. The extra appointments are bookable on the day by ringing reception on the usual number.
If you are not able to attend an appointment you have booked, for whatever reason, please let us know. We can then offer that appointment to someone else that needs it.
New Patients Welcome
We have an open list and welcome new patients - we offer a quiet, relaxed and friendly environment for patients and are proud of our achievements in quality of care as indicated in the Quality Outcome Framework. We provide several services in addition to general medical services eg dealing with sports/musculoskeletal injuries, health checks, smoking cessation, minor injuries.
The practice boundary area was expanded a few months ago - patients from Warboys, Pidley, Somersham, Earith, Willingham, Longstanton, Bar Hill, Knapwell, Cambourne, Papworth Everard, Hilton, Godmanchester, Old Hurst are now within our catchment area. Please see boundary map at link below:
On-line - Book/Cancel Appointments/Order Repeat Prescriptions
Our on-line services are very easy to use - especially helpful for patients wishing to book an appointment or order a repeat prescription at any time of the day or night, and saves time coming into the Surgery or telephoning in during surgery hours. Patients initially need to come into the Surgery for a Password, and then will be able to log-in at our website www.northcotehousesurgery.co.uk to use the services.
Patient Reference Group
A group of patients meet regularly with representatives of the practice team to discuss services provided by the practice - their feedback has been extremely useful in helping to improve areas which would enhance patient care. If you would be interested in being involved in this friendly group and have a say in your health care and provision of services in the locality, please leave your name at reception.

Health Checks 40 - 74 years
An initiative to provide health care for patients who don't normally come to see a Clinician has been taken on board and eligible patients between 40 and 74 are invited for general health checks carried out by our nursing team. These checks have been found to be exceptionally beneficial and detected health issues which the patients weren't previously aware of and therefore could be given appropriate healthcare advice and treatment. We will continue to invite eligible patients for these checks.
The practice offers this important screening for patients between the ages of 16 and 24. Northcote House achieve good results which are well above those set for us.
Care Quality Commission - we are registered
All General practices have to apply to be registered with the CQC in order to continue providing medical services
Quality Outcome Framework
This measures the quality of all aspects of General practice - both clinical and organisational. The results for recent years were excellent. (We reached, and in some cases exceeded, the targets set for quality of care in all areas except one which was unfortunately impossible to achieve as we had no patients within the category for which we were measured). The practice is very proud of this achievement which evidences the hard work of the whole team in providing high quality care. We are now working towards 2015 - 2016 achievements and aspire to good outcomes again this year.
Named Accountable GP
As part of our contractual requirements, all patients registered at a GP practice are to be allocated a named accountable GP.
What does ‘accountable’ mean?
The contract requires the named accountable GP to be responsible for the co-ordination of all appropriate services required under the contract and ensure they are delivered to each of those patients where required, on the patients behalf.
However, this does not mean that they will be the only GP or clinician who will provide care to that patient. This GP may be a partner or a salaried GP.
Will GP practices write to patients to inform them of their named GP?
No. However, practices are required to inform patients of their named GP at the next appropriate interaction.
Can patients choose their own named GP?
In the first instance, patients will simply be allocated a named GP. However, if a patient requests a particular GP, reasonable effort will be made to accommodate their preference.
Do patients have to see their named GP when they book an appointment?
No. Patients can and should feel free to choose to see any GP or nurse in the practice in line with current arrangements. However, if their preferred choice of GP is not available, an alternative will be offered.
All patients registered at Northcote House & Fenstanton Surgeries have a named accountable GP. If you wish to be told the name of your Accountable GP, please ask the receptionists when you are next in the surgery.
